Joshua J. Bell

Joshua Bell currently serves as the Director of Development of American Friends of the Louvre, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Musée du Louvre and advancing French culture in the United States through a dynamic membership program and philanthropic support. Since it was founded 20+ years ago, the organization has raised more than $60 million in support of the Museum.

Prior to AFL, Josh spent three and a half years in leadership fundraising roles at LGBT+ and HIV advocacy organizations, including GMHC and amfAR. In these roles, he oversaw a dynamic array of revenue streams including major gifts, direct mail, digital marketing, and planned giving. Earlier in his career, Josh served for four years as the Senior Major Gifts Officer at The Studio Museum in Harlem. During his time there, he oversaw not only major gifts, but also patron programs and all art acquisitions. His other work experience includes time spent in higher education with positions held both at The Bard Graduate Center and The Institute for the Study of the Ancient World.

Josh is a longtime resident of Harlem. In addition to his work with Artistic Noise, he is also an active member of the New York chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, through which he has had multiple speaking engagements. He previously served as Secretary to the Board of The Marcus Garvey Park Alliance, a grassroots organization dedicated to providing art and cultural programming in Marcus Garvey Park. Josh also plays and coaches volleyball in an LGBT league. 

Prior to moving to New York, Josh lived in Philadelphia where he received his BA in English and French literature. He continued his studies at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, where he received an MA in art history. In his spare time Josh loves to travel, ski, do crossword puzzles, and read.
