artistic noise: art from the juvenile detention system and beyond The Memories That Make Us

Art, Entrepreneurship and Curatorial Program-Harlem, NY
Art and Entrepreneurship students began this project by constructing personal timelines and considering how they arrived where they are at today, in both a literal and metaphorical way. They then chose prompts concerning memorable life moments and placed these events onto the timeline. After studying the arc of their stories, students chose a significant memory to compose as part of themselves by using a gel transfer method to collage symbolic images onto their charcoal self-portraits.

Images of My Past
Artist Statement:
My artwork is an image of my past. That it is 4th of July for the meanings of the fireworks I shot and others did that is in the sky, also that was my best holiday when I was a kid. This artwork express my message of childhood and the best part out of being a kid -- which was a holiday named 4th of July.
