artistic noise: art from the juvenile detention system and beyond To See, by Tamara, 17.
If you look into my eyes what do you see? Pain, hurt, lies, darkness and more. Just by looking in her eyes you will start to understand her story. You will begin to feel her pain, hear her lies and become one with her in her world of darkness.
Print Project
Artistic Noise partnered with the Children's Aid Society and the Department of Education to pilot a progressive arts-based GED program. During this project participants studied German Expressionist woodblock prints while studying World War II in their GED prep classes. Like the German Expressionist artists, students discussed as a group the issues in society that affect the lives of urban teens. They then created their own self-portrait prints to explore these issues and connect their personal identity to their role in society. The students created a short animated film with altered versions of their prints.
