artistic noise: art from the juvenile detention system and beyond Story Boxes

What story do you have to tell?
How can you tell it in pictures?

Girls made layered story boxes using paper and cut imagery. After looking at the art of Romare Bearden and learning how to make a simple frame, they used unusual juxtapositions of pictures and texts to tell personal, visual stories about friendship, escape, freedom, poverty, faith and race.

These Story Boxes were displayed at the Massachusetts College of Art Arnheim Gallery, September 2010.
