artistic noise: art from the juvenile detention system and beyond Charcoal Drawings
By Girls in Spectrum Detention and Participants in The Boston Arts and Entrepreneurship Program
Shown here: Silhouetted Self-Portrait, by Shanice

For this project, girls in Spectrum Detention worked together with light and shadow to create large silhouettes in charcoal. Participants combined aspects of performance, movement, and drawing to create images that express a mood or personality trait.
Youth participants in the The Boston Arts and Entrepreneurship Program, created portraits in charcoal from photographs. Emphasis was placed on expressing something about your personality through the pose and composition.
